Improving our School.

Our Journey so far. By Ms H's Writing Group.
Here are some of our ideas about what we did this term.
For our Team Pukeko Inquiry we wanted to change our school. We took photos of places at our school that we want to improve.
We have done lots of planning. To help with all of our decisions we used a decision - making grid. We all got to vote for the best ideas that we could make that would represent our school. To help with ideas we went on Pinterest to find out how to make murals, clay tiles and bird baths. We made plans and wrote down what we needed. Mitre 10 was a really helpful place and we found out about paint for our mural and looked around. We met Steve and Mr Whitehead. Steve cut the ply wood with the panel saw into the right sizes. Mr Whitehead showed us all the paint cans.

We had to to fund-raise so we sold ice-blocks to raise money.
An artist called Helen Hughes came and showed us some clay and we got to make some small pinch pots.
We made clay tiles. We will put them on a board next to our bird bath at the end of the field.
Our mural is colourful and cool we are very proud of what we are doing.

Anzac Poems

We created these poems after reading the Anzac children's stories The donkey Man and The Bantum and the Soldier to get an idea about what happened.

I am an Anzac soldier
I smell the smoke, fire and dirt
I hear the boom of gun shots
I see the dead people and bombs
I feel sick, sore scared and freezing
Remember me.
By Manuel

I am an Anzac soldier
I smell the smoke from the fire
I hear the grades going off
I see the people dying
I feel so sick
Remember me.
By Iraia

I am an Anzac soldier
I smell the dirt and mud
I hear the moans
I see the blood
I feel sad and sick
Remember me.

100 Years of ANZAC

Term 2 has kicked off with a look at what ANZAC means to us and its significance to us.
Team Pukeko got into the spirit by creating commemorative poppies wreaths and writing poetry. We got our information from reading books such as Dawn Parade, Harry and the Anzac Poppy, The Bantum and the Soldier and Donkey Man. By the time we got around to having a Team quiz it was a race to see who could get the information out the fastest.

Watch this space for Team Pukeko's Inquiry developments

Today, the day we went back to school for Term , Team Pukeko went on a hikoi to help identify our new topic for this term. It was patterns. We walked around the school, we looked  at shapes and then we went back to home base at Room 2 and explained some of our ideas.

Re-creating our Butterfly Garden.

At Morningside School we have a butterfly garden. A group of Braggers want to re-create the butterfly garden. Our existing  butterfly garden does not have butterflies in it. It only has crowded sad looking swan plants and it's not very exciting. So we are going to re-create our butterfly garden, by making a garden with butterfly attrcting plants in it.
